Hello! Today I´m going to talk about Germán Valenzuela Basterrica, the first director of the dentistry school of the University of Chile. He was born on April 9, 1859, in Curico. He studied medicine at the University of Chile and graduated in 1882, working in Combarbalá (located in the Region of Coquimbo). In 1887 he moved to the south of the country, where he faced a cholera epidemy and became interested in oral pathologies, for this reason, he went to France to study dentistry at the University of Paris, graduating in 1898 as a dentist.  On the evening on February 5, 1909, the German Embassy was set on fire, and the burned body of Chancellor Guillermo Beckert was found. The Chilean Exequiel Tapia was later accused of the crime because he worked there and disappeared.  Thanks to the diligence of German Valenzuela and the study of the teeth, the crime was solved. My favorite chilean food

Hello! Today I´m going to talk about corn cake or "pastel de choclo", an iconic dish of summertime and one of my favorite meals. The "pastel de choclo" is a meal typically eaten for lunch. It is made with a filling of "pino" (ground beef mixed with onions), chicken, olives and eggs, which are also added and topped with a layer of sweet corn purée. Some people like to add raisins to it, but I don´t like to. What I do like to add, however, is ensalada chilena, which is a salad made with tomatoes, onions and cilantro. I like it because its flavor is so unique, and the mixture between corn puré, meat, onion, and chicken makes a great combination. To finish, the pastel de choclo has a high amount of calories. For this reason, people that have diabetes can´t eat portions too large. On the other hand, it´s a good source of fiber, nutrients, vitamins and energy, so it’s not that bad for our health in the right quantity.

My favorite piece of technology

Hello! My favorite technological device is the cell phone. I like it because it allows me to do everything I need and I want. With the cell phone, I can read, watch and learn things. Also, I can speak with friends and family. The cell phone allows me to do so much with little effort and time. Throughout my life, I have had three phones. I got my first cell phone when I was twelve years old and I was still at school. My third cell phone, the one I still have, has lasted two years (I have been more careful with it). I use it every day especially when I'm bored or when I need to write or search for something online. To finish, I think my life without my cell phone would be hard but I could get used to it.

The reason why I chose this career

Hello! Today I´m going to talk about my career and dream job when I was a child. When I was a child, I wanted to become a firefighter, but as I got older, my dream job changed, and I wanted to be a dentist because oral health is really important to society as well, and is something many people lack. So far, my experience at university has been fine. I met many new people and learned a lot about the human body, but it´s much harder than school overall. Upon graduating from university, I would like to move to the south of the country and work as a dentist there. On the other hand, I haven´t really thought about specializing, so it´s something I will have to decide in the future.

Hello everyone, my name is Diego and I'm going to tell you about myself. I was born on July 8, 2003 in Santiago. I lived some years in Angol (9th Region). After I finished kindergarten, I went to N° 270 El Carmen School (from 2008 to 2015) and then to Instituto Nacional J.M.C (in 2016) also I went to San francisco de Asis High School (from 2017 to 2018) and finally I returned to Instituto Nacional J.M.C (from 2019 to 2021). Currently I´m studying dentistry at Universidad de Chile.  I have only one brother (We are the same age), he´s studying engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. I live with him and my parents in Conchali. I also have a dog named Charlie.  To finish, I enjoy fishing, cooking, going out with my friends, reading and riding my bike.
